After the
Santa Cruz vs Sacred City bout, instead of hustling back to my hotel room and speed-editing a few photos and submitting them by the 9:30pm deadline to the Santa Cruz Sentinel for $20, I shot the second bout of the double header instead. The so-called "B-Teams." Viva Roller Derby vs the Sacred City Disciples.
This is the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium as a venue for roller derby.
It would have been cooler if the venue was filled with people a bit more. Not only for Sacred City's finances, but the general ambiance of the bout.
The
last time I was at the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium, there was two rows of spot lights, going down the straight-a-ways of the track instead of the one bank of lights above turns 3 and 4. That meant that the Memorial Auditorium at that time was about as well lit as the
Water City Sports roller hockey rink in Marina, CA.... where about 1-stop worth of flash is useful beyond the ambient light. The Memorial Auditorium is lit a little like the
Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium, a bit spottier and with turns 1 and 2 about 1 stop dimmer than turns 3 and 4.
I think at some point during the second bout I made some adjustments so that the exposures were not quite so underexposed. Better late than never I suppose.
