Last Saturday was the first home bout of Santa Cruz's B-team, the Harbor Hellcats. They took on on the Rollin' Roulette of Merced and won convincingly 179 to 37.

what are the chances?

Also, the Santa Cruz Groms travel team played a full contact 20 minute half-time bout against Merced's junior derby team.  This is the first time we've seen the groms play full contact.  Now, I'm just a photog. I have a different way of paying attention to a bout than a knowledgeable fan, player, or parent. Having said that, this bout was intense.  It wasn't just the hitting. It seemed that all that practice with positional blocking has paid off and the skaters set up opposing players to get hit. One of Merced's little jammers in particular, seemed to get pinballed all over the pack never quite breaking out.

MBDD rematch: Cannery Rollers vs Babes of Wrath

This time I remembered to bring the 15mm lens so I got a few wide angle shots of the venue.  Water City Roller Sports is a big warehouse sort of building that appears to be lit by  HID lights.

looking fierce

The Babes of Wrath make a stunning last jam comeback to gain a two point lead at halftime.

Also, I just love the old broken panels and industrial looking pipes on the wall in this venue.
